Morning feed!

THIS IS THE AMOUNT OF BISCUITS LIONEL AND I TAKE FROM OUR HOUSE EVERY MORNING. THIS FEEDS ABOUT A FIFTH OF THE CATS PARC FEED EVERY DAY. PAM TAKES AS MANY AS I DO, CLARE FEEDS 25 CATS AND ANN HAS AROUND 40 AT HER HOME. IN ADDITION TO THIS WE HAVE KITTENS AND DOGS IN FOSTER CARE THAT WE HAVE TO PROVIDE FOOD AND MEDICATION FOR. YOU CAN ALSO SEE PICTURED A GROUP OF 4 CATS. THEY ARE HOTEL CATS IN CORAL BAY. WITHOUT OUR HELP, PARTICULARLY IN THE WINTER THESE DEAR CATS WOULD QUITE LITERALLY STARVE. MANY OF THE RESTAURANTS ARE CLOSED AND THE VISITORS HAVE LEFT. OUR FEED BILL ALONE IS NOW IN THE REGION OF 800 EUROS PER MONTH. THANK YOU FOR YOUR CONTINUED SUPPORT WE CERTAINLY NEED IT.

Flying fund!

This is one of the 4 kitten cats that will be flying to Germany on Monday morning. This week I will have sent 5 kitten/cats to Germany our lovely dog Lulu to the UK and I have another dog waiting to go to Germany. Although the recipients of the animals make a donation towards the cost there is always a shortfall which Parc have to make up. I am totally committed to finding forever homes for our animals and if this means raising money to help with the cost then I simply have to do it. Jo our UK organiser is as committed as I am and she is trying hard to raise money in the UK to help our flying fund. I know I have asked you before if you will send her 5 pounds for raffle tickets but I am asking again because I have so many animals that need to go to homes outside Cyprus. To prepare and fly a cat for the UK will cost 500 Euros. Please if you can send 5 pounds to Jo she needs 100 of you to do this to meet the full cost of one cat. It might seem an awful lot for one cat but if you could see these dear creatures here that are simply being abandoned you will know why I am trying so hard. I am not talking about cats with owners I am talking about cats that have been left to fend for themselves when they have been brought up in a domestic home.
You can send your donation to Jo:

Lulu leaves for her new home in Britain today.

Lulu has gone to the UK to her new home with Markus and Martyn. We travelled to the airport at 6am this morning for a 9.15 flight. Lulu was her lovely happy self. I am sure she will have a wonderful forever home in Manchester.
Getting her to the UK has involved a tremendous amount of work and commitment from the Parc team (thank you Clare for getting up at the crack of dawn with me to act as co pilot) Special thanks to our wonderful UK Veterinary Nurse Jo who found this splendid home for Lulu. Jo has done so much for Parc in the short time we have known her she is a valuable member of our team now.
It takes a lot of work and a lot of money to export animals outside Cyprus but believe me we worry about homing animals here as so many people are leaving often through no fault of their own. Getting Lulu to the UK was possible because her previous owner had had the foresight to get a pet passport for her. Of course she was very sad to lose her beloved dog but her circumstances were such that she had to find a home for her and by working with Parc we were able to prevent the need for Lulu to go to a shelter. Please please if you take an animal either from the shelter or from Parc or Cydra do make sure that you obtain a pet passport.
We wish Markus, Martyn and our dear Lulu all the very best for the future.

A special needs cat!

This lovely affectionate cat was found in the garden of a villa in Latchi. It was thought he had been run over as he couldn’t use his back legs. Polis Animal Rescue took him to the vet and had him x-rayed only to find there was no visible damage. He can stand but when he walks or tries to run he has no control over his back legs, they just go all over the place. He has a lovely nature and is very affectionate; he has no problem using a litter tray. He has been neutered and vaccinated.
Can you give a home to a Special Needs Cat? If so please telephone June on 99205752

Two little feral kittens.

2 WEEKS AGO PAM AND I MANAGED TO TRAP 2 OF THE LITTLE KITTENS FROM OUR NEW CORAL BAY GROUP. ONE OF THEM WAS VERY POORLY HAVING DIARRHEA. THE BOY WHO IS SLIGHTLY BIGGER WAS STILL WELL AND WE WERE ABLE TO VACCINATE HIM. HOWEVER, WE DECIDED TO TAKE THEM BOTH INTO OUR PENS WHILE WE TREATED THE SICK ONE AND KEPT A CLOSE EYE ON THEM TO SEE IF WE COULD GET THEM FRIENDLY ENOUGH TO HOME. SADLY THIS DID NOT HAPPEN. INITIALLY WE KEPT THEM SEPARATED FOR INFECTION REASONS BUT THEY WERE BOTH SO DISTRESSED WE HAD TO PUT THEM TOGETHER. THEY IMMEDIATELY MADE A HIDEY HOLE BEHIND THE DOOR AND WOULD NOT COME OUT WHILE WE WERE THERE. THEY DID COME OUT WHEN WE WEREN'T WATCHING AND ATE ALL THEIR GOOD FOOD IN WHICH WE HAD PUT THE MEDICATION. THIS MORNING WE MANAGED TO SECURE THEM IN OUR RESTRAINER BASKETS AND TOOK THEM BOTH FOR VET CHECK. THEY WERE PASSED FIT AND WELL AND THE LITTLE GIRL WAS VACCINATED. IT WAS WITH SOME REGRET THAT I RELEASED THEM IN THEIR OWN ENVIRONMENT MAKING SURE THERE WAS PLENTY OF FOOD FOR ALL. PAM AND DON CHECKED AGAIN THIS AFTERNOON AND THEY ARE NOW WELL SETTLED WITH THEIR FRIENDS.WE HAVE NOW HAD 125 CATS AND KITTENS IN OUR PENS OVER THE PAST 18 MONTHS. PAM AND DON HAVE PROVIDED THEM WITH THE VERY BEST CARE AND ATTENTION. THE MAJORITY OF THEM HAVE BEEN SUCCESSFULLY HOMED. ALTHOUGH THESE TWO HAD TO STAY IN THE FERAL GROUP THEY ARE CLEARLY VERY HAPPY, PARC WILL MAKE SURE THEY ARE FED DAILY AND CHECKED REGULARLY FOR SICKNESS OR INJURY. DON SAID TODAY WHO ELSE WOULD DO ALL THIS TO HELP LITTLE FERAL KITTENS. GOOD QUESTION DON. IN REALITY YOU WILL AND PARC WILL. THIS IS WHAT WE ARE ABOUT AND WE ARE PROUD TO DO A GREAT JOB FOR THE LITTLE ONES THAT NO ONE ELSE WILL HELP. BECAUSE OF YOUR DONATIONS WE ARE ABLE TO DO AN IMPORTANT JOB AND PROVIDE FREE MEDICAL CARE TO HOMELESS ANIMALS. THANK YOU FOR SUPPORTING US.

I cant stress enough how fantastic it would be to raise some funds at the moment. I have just sent a cat (PICTURED) to Germany (no one wants them here for obvious reasons). This cost Parc 204 euros. This included costs for standard vaccines, rabies, microchip, flight and travel costs (getting the cat to Larnaka) and the travel bag. The new owners are asked to contribute 70 euros this means that the cost to home one kitten/cat to Parc is 134 euros. This is on top of all the money we need to feed 150 animals every day and to meet our Veterinary bills. We are neutering between 2 and 300 cats each year as well as paying for sick and injured animals to be treated.
You may ask if it was worth it for one cat. I too ask this but this cat was found at the Monastory where there are over 60 cats. She was young, very friendly and obviously distressed as she had clearly been dumped there by someone who had made her a pet and then couldn't keep her. She was not a feral kitten and to leave her in the large group would have been cruel beyond belief. Dr. Maria spayed her and then held on to her until we could find someone to give her a proper home.
SO WAS IT WORTH IT? DAMM RIGHT IT WAS!!!LOOK IN HER EYES AND TELL ME IT ISN'T WORTH SAVING A CAT.

Bobby and Lulu

Well fantastic news. Bobby the big Collie x has now got a brilliant home with Loretta and Lee and their 10 year old Collie dog. He went on trial on Wednesday and has settled in brilliantly. He is enjoying long walks (runs) on the beach and is cuddling up next to Loretta in the house at night. I couldn't have wished for a better home for this lovely dog.
My thanks to Gill and Pete at Shampooch pet shop who put me in touch with Loretta. Gill and Pete have always supported our work and we are very grateful to them.
Lulu (if you remember had a full British Passport) and she has secured a wonderful home with Marcus and his partner and will fly to the UK on the 25th November. Jo who is a trained Veterinary Nurse, and a great Parc supporter in the UK, found this fantastic home for Lulu. Marcus had his dog for 17 years and after 2 years without a furry friend decided it was now time to adopt again.
As I said to Pauline their British owner who has sadly had to give them up, if I had waited a year I couldn't have found them better homes. A great success story. My thanks to all those involved not least to Pauline who is putting her dogs welfare above her own. You can see their picture below.

My dear God what will come next?

She was found laying in the road at Skouli about two weeks ago by a caring motorist who, having phoned us, brought him to the vet where he was met by a Polis Animal Rescue volunteer.
This puppy, who’s about four months old, couldn’t stand up and was very frightened so was cared for by the vet for a few days.
She had an X-ray and was found to have a dislocated hip, a broken pelvis and a mass of lead shot in his rear end. She desperately needed someone to care for her short-term if she was to have any chance of survival, so, after several phone calls, GOAL found him a temporary home.
She’s now up on her feet and doing well with her caring fosterers but doesn’t like to be left on her own. She’s a very loving little girl who needs a permanent home as soon as possible. Could she be your new friend and companion? Why not phone 99205752 and arrange to meet her.
PARC WORK WITH BOTH POLIS ANIMAL RESCUE AND GOAL, WE ARE PROUD TO DO SO. WE HELP EACH OTHER SO WE CAN HELP ALL THE ANIMALS PLEASE PLEASE SOMEONE HELP THIS POOR PUPPY.

Coral Bay cats

Pam and I managed to get the two tiny kittens that we have been trying to get for the past two weeks. We knew they weren't thriving and was aware that they had not looked as well as the rest of the group. The larger one was found to be ok but the little one has a virus and is having medication to try and get her better. They are both safe in Parc Pens tonight (separated of course to try and prevent cross infection) Don designed the pens to allow for isolation thank goodness. They are both pretty wild but Pam and Don will try and get them friendly so we can find a home for them in the future. To date we have taken 7 young ones away. We also managed to catch one of the mother cats. She has now been spayed and will return to the group tomorrow.
It was lovely this morning to look down at all the cats and see that practically all of them have got their ears clipped. In fact we believe there are now only 3 cats to be caught for the snip.
We are still keen to find safe areas for these cats before their land is cleared. I simply cannot get my head round the idea of these poor cats waking up one morning and finding tractors and diggers taking the bushes from over their heads. It will happen. I find myself having great empathy for the green eco-warriers that fought so hard to save the rainforests. Coral Bay might be a far cry from Australia but there is a moral there. Our dear cats are losing their land, their home their future. It is very very sad.

Sooty and Minstral

These two beautiful healthy kittens are being forstered for Parc by Clare and Jason at Cozy Catz Cattery. They have had their first vaccines are healthy, full of fun, litter trained and they mix happily with cats and dogs. They are now ready for forever homes. Dont forget Parc do not make a charge for our kittens but we do appreciate a donation towards the cost involved. All our animals are vaccinated as soon as they are old enough and well enough. We also have older kittens that have been neutered. If you can offer a home to one or two of our babies do contact us.

I am pleased to say that we have had a good response from Polis Animal Rescue to our request for help with the Coral Bay cats. They have offered to take 4 of the little kittens. That is an amazing gesture and we are pleased to say that 4 have already been selected to go over to Polis. Our thanks to Parg for helping out in this case. We would also like to thank GOAL (Group of Animal lovers) from Polis who support Parc too. This group work very hard raising funds which they share amongst animal organisations. They also help Parc by fostering and finding homes for us. It is really good to know that we can all work together to help these dear creatures.
