Pam and I managed to get the two tiny kittens that we have been trying to get for the past two weeks. We knew they weren't thriving and was aware that they had not looked as well as the rest of the group. The larger one was found to be ok but the little one has a virus and is having medication to try and get her better. They are both safe in Parc Pens tonight (separated of course to try and prevent cross infection) Don designed the pens to allow for isolation thank goodness. They are both pretty wild but Pam and Don will try and get them friendly so we can find a home for them in the future. To date we have taken 7 young ones away. We also managed to catch one of the mother cats. She has now been spayed and will return to the group tomorrow.
It was lovely this morning to look down at all the cats and see that practically all of them have got their ears clipped. In fact we believe there are now only 3 cats to be caught for the snip.
We are still keen to find safe areas for these cats before their land is cleared. I simply cannot get my head round the idea of these poor cats waking up one morning and finding tractors and diggers taking the bushes from over their heads. It will happen. I find myself having great empathy for the green eco-warriers that fought so hard to save the rainforests. Coral Bay might be a far cry from Australia but there is a moral there. Our dear cats are losing their land, their home their future. It is very very sad.
